Gablet is a Mac menu bar app for window management. A 7-day free trial may be offered; a paid license is required after the trial. It throws, snaps, stashes, and pins windows. It is not another workspace you have to manage. Requires macOS 11.5 or later. Download it from this website — it is not on the Mac App Store.
1. Install
- Download Gablet for Mac.
- Open the disk image and drag Gablet to Applications. If macOS warns about an unidentified developer, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow it.
- Launch Gablet. It lives in the menu bar.
2. Accessibility
Gablet cannot move windows until macOS trusts it.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Enable Gablet. If it is missing, click + and choose Gablet in Applications.
- Quit Gablet completely and open it again.
3. Quick Throw
- Open Settings from the menu bar and turn on Quick Throw.
- Record the modifier keys you want to hold (for example Control + Option).
- Hold those keys, move the cursor in the direction of a half, corner, center, or two-thirds, then release.
The window under the cursor can move even when it is not focused. Halves, center, four corners, and two-thirds are built in.
4. Snap areas
Drag a window to a screen edge to snap it, or draw your own snap areas when halves are not enough. Custom sizes and positions live in Settings.
5. Layouts
- Arrange the windows you want — browser, Finder, editor.
- Save a layout from the menu or Settings.
- Restore that layout later to put the same apps back where they were.
6. Stash
Stash slides a window off-screen and brings it back. You can stash one side, stash all but one, or cycle what you hid. Turn Stash on in Settings and assign shortcuts if you use it often.
7. Pin Mode
Pin one window so it stays put, then reflow the others around it. Use this when a reference, a ticket, or a video should not move while you rearrange the rest of the desk. Enable Pin Mode in Settings and show it in the menu if you want a click target.
8. Keyboard shortcuts
Every throw, snap, stash, and layout action can have its own shortcut. Open Settings and click a row to record a keystroke. Cursor-movement throws and keyboard throws can be used together.
9. Troubleshooting
- Windows do not move — Accessibility is off, or Gablet was not quit after you granted it. Toggle the checkbox, quit Gablet, reopen.
- The wrong window moves — put the cursor over the window you want before you throw, or focus it first.
- A layout did not restore — the app must still be running. Open those apps, then restore again.
