The format is chosen when you start a Shoverlay recording. It decides whether the file can carry the sound you turned on.
Pick from the four formats
- MP4 or MOV — use these when the clip should include system audio or the microphone.
- GIF or animated WebP — a short moving image. Do not choose these when you need the soundtrack.
The picture of the screen — an area, a window, or the full display — is available in each format. The webcam overlay, click highlights, and keystrokes are recording options, not formats.
Change your mind
Pick the format before you record. Trim afterward if the clip is too long. Export formats for still screenshots are PNG, JPEG, TIFF, and WebP, and they do not apply to this recording.
