VeeCam is a camera, drawing, and presentation tool for Mac. Plug in a USB document camera, visualizer, or UVC webcam. It is not a built-in FaceTime camera app, and it is not a screen recorder as its job title — recording the camera or the screen is optional, for a lesson. Requires macOS 11.5 or later.
1. Install
- Install VeeCam from the Mac App Store.
- Open the app. Grant Camera when asked. Grant Microphone only if you will record voice. The first save to Downloads, Desktop, or Documents may ask for folder access.
2. Connect a camera
- Plug in a USB document camera, visualizer, or UVC webcam. Wait until macOS sees it.
- Open VeeCam and choose that camera in the camera list if more than one device is connected.
- Point the camera at the desk, a book, or a worksheet. Do not expect the built-in FaceTime camera to be the target device.
3. Live visualize
Use the live view for class, a demo, or a projector.
- Freeze — hold the current frame while you talk.
- Zoom, rotate, mirror — match the page to the room.
- Autofocus, exposure, white balance, color — when the desk is too dark or too warm.
- Annotate — draw or type on the live view as you explain.
4. Whiteboard
Switch to a light or dark board when the paper on the desk is not enough. Write or draw the idea, then switch back to the camera.
5. Tiles
Open 2, 4, or 6 panes. Import an image or take a snapshot, then compare it with the live page. Masks cover a region or spotlight one part of the page.
6. Scan to a file
- Switch to Capture. Choose Snapshot, Document, Book (one page or a two-page spread), Card, or QR / barcode.
- Use auto scan, or crop manually. For several pages, keep capturing into the same batch.
- A book can stay open — you do not need to unbind it to scan a spread.
- Save the result. The first save to a system folder may ask for permission.
7. OCR and read aloud
Recognize text from the camera image, copy it, or hear it with text-to-speech. Use this for worksheets, a printed paragraph, or a student who needs the page read out.
You can record the camera or the screen when you need a lesson file. That is part of presenting — VeeCam is still a visualizer and scanner, not a general screen-recording studio.
8. Troubleshooting
- Black preview — another app is using the camera, or Camera permission is off. Quit the other app, enable Camera, reopen VeeCam.
- No USB camera listed — unplug and reconnect. Confirm the device is UVC. VeeCam is not built for the FaceTime camera.
- Scan looks skewed — switch to manual crop, or flatten the page under the camera.
- Files will not save — allow folder access, or choose a folder in Settings.
