A hover menu disappears when you go to press the shortcut. Timer and freeze-screen exist so that menu can still be in the picture. Hiding desktop icons is a different control.
Wait, then shoot
- Choose Timer, or turn on the self-timer, from Shoverlay.
- Open the menu, tooltip, or hover state you need in the shot.
- Let the delay finish. The shot is taken while that state is still up.
Freeze-screen holds the current pixels, including the hover state, so you can frame the shot without the menu closing. Use freeze when the thing you need vanishes as soon as the pointer moves. Use the timer when you only need a short pause before the shutter.
If the menu is still missing
Start the timer first, then open the menu during the countdown. If you open the menu after the shot, it was never in the frame. Screen Recording must be allowed.
Install Shoverlay on the Mac App Store.
