A working desk is a set of windows in particular places: mail on the side, the document in the middle, Finder at the bottom. Rebuilding that by hand every morning is the part worth skipping. A layout saves the arrangement and puts it back.
Save the desk you already like
- Arrange the windows the way you want them. Quick Throw and snap are the fast way to get there.
- Save that arrangement as a layout.
- Restore it when you come back to the same work. The browser, Finder, and the document return to those places.
Keep different work in different layouts
One layout can be the writing desk. Another can be the desk where you compare two windows. Restoring one does not require you to remember each window’s coordinates. If a single window should stay put while the others move, use Pin Mode on that window first.
What has to be true
Gablet can only move windows if Accessibility is granted. After you allow it, quit and reopen the app. It runs from the menu bar on macOS 11.5 or later. You can download Gablet for a 7-day free trial, then a paid license.
