Put a webcam overlay on a Mac screen recording

Show a camera picture on top of a Shoverlay screen recording while you record the screen.

A webcam overlay is a camera picture on the recording. It is not a second screen recording, and it is not the microphone. You turn it on when the viewer should see you as well as the screen.

Add the camera

Choose Record and frame the screen area, window, or display.
In Recording settings, turn on the webcam overlay.
Allow Camera for Shoverlay. Quit the app and open it again after you allow it.
Record, then stop from the toolbar.

Leave the overlay off when the clip should be only the screen. The camera permission is not required for a recording that never uses it.

If the overlay is missing

Camera permission is off, another app is using the camera, or the overlay switch is off. The screen recording can still finish without it.
