A screenshot often includes the thing you did not want: a desktop full of icons, or a menu that vanished the moment you pressed the shortcut. Shoverlay can clean the background and wait for the interface to settle.
Keep a hover menu in the shot
Use Timer when the thing you need only appears while the pointer is hovering. The delay gives you time to open the menu. Freeze-screen holds the current picture, including that hover state, so the menu does not close while you drag the selection.
Hide the desktop
You can hide desktop icons for a shot. You can also replace the desktop with a wallpaper, a solid color, or a clean window background. Use that when the window is the subject and the files behind it are noise.
Or capture only the window
Window mode clicks one app window and leaves the rest of the desktop out. That is usually enough for a single app. Area plus a clean background is better when you need part of a window plus a plain field around it.
These options still need Screen Recording permission. Install Shoverlay on the Mac App Store. The image stays on your Mac. Export it as PNG, JPEG, TIFF, or WebP, or pin it if you are using it as a reference.
