A screenshot is easier to explain after you mark the part that matters. In Shoverlay you capture first, then annotate on that image. You can also open the annotator automatically after every shot.
Take the shot
- Click the menu bar icon or press your shortcut.
- Choose Area and drag, Window and click a window, or Fullscreen for the whole display.
- Use Previous Area when you need that same rectangle again.
Quick Access appears on the capture. Choose annotate from there, or set annotate as the default action in Settings so the editor opens on its own.
Mark it up
The annotator includes arrows, shapes, text, highlighter, pixelate, spotlight, blur, and step counters. Crop the frame, change the background, or insert another image when the shot needs context. Pixelate or blur hides a name, a balance, or a message you do not want to share.
Copy, save, or pin
When the marks are right, copy the image, save it, or pin it above your other windows. History keeps the capture so you can reopen it. Still images export as PNG, JPEG, TIFF, or WebP. The file stays on your Mac.
Screen Recording permission is required. If the picker never appears, turn that permission on, quit Shoverlay, and open it again. Install Shoverlay on the Mac App Store.
