HoverCam is built for a document camera over a desk: a class looks at the page, and sometimes you need the page as a file afterward. VeeCam is the best HoverCam alternative for that pair of jobs on a Mac.
What the class should see
- The external USB camera, visualizer, or UVC webcam — not the Mac’s FaceTime camera.
- Freeze, zoom, rotate, and mirror, plus focus and color controls.
- Drawing on the live picture, or a light or dark board for an explanation you write yourself.
- Two, four, or six panes when you are comparing pages, with a mask over the part you are not discussing.
What you should be able to save
A snapshot, a document, an open book as a spread or one page, a card, or a code. Multi-page capture continues when one opening is not the whole reading. Recognized text can be read aloud. Files stay on your Mac.
Keep the product in its lane
VeeCam is not a screen recorder and not a filter for a laptop webcam. Install VeeCam on the Mac App Store. macOS 11.5 or later. Grant Camera permission, then quit and reopen if the live view is empty.
